Frequently Asked Questions

What is a Charter School?

Hayward Collegiate is a public Charter School, which means we are open-enrollment and free-tuition. Charter Schools have certain freedoms afforded to them that District schools do not, such as autonomy over our budget, how we evaluate our teachers, and our educational program.

Charter schools were created to:

  • Increase opportunities for learning and access to quality education for all students

  • Create choice for parents and students within the public school system

  • Provide a system of accountability for results in public education

  • Encourage innovative teaching practices

  • Create new professional opportunities for teachers

  • Encourage community and parent involvement in public education

  • Leverage improved public education broadly

What is TK (Transitional Kindergarten)?

TK scholars are 4-year-olds who turn 5 between Sept. 2 and Dec. 2.

We are currently accepting TK scholars, if you are interested please enroll here.
